Dhar: A case involving an alleged threat to a journalist has reached the court following an order directing prosecution against former Dhamnod police station in-charge Santosh Dudhi.

The order was passed by the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Dharampuri, while hearing a complaint filed by Vijay Singhal, editor-in-chief of Dhamnod Samachar. The court has ordered prosecution against Dudhi under Section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The matter relates to an incident reported on the night of June 3, 2025, when several vehicles were allegedly targeted in stone-pelting at the New Ganpati Ghat area. According to the complainant, information about the incident was immediately conveyed to police authorities.

Singhal has alleged that after he informed the police about the incident, the then station in-charge allegedly threatened him over the phone with action under the National Security Act (NSA) and with having his house demolished.

An audio recording of the alleged conversation had also become a subject of discussion at the time. Following the incident, journalists' organisations reportedly submitted a memorandum to senior police authorities seeking action.

In Complaint Case No. 182/2025, Singhal, through his counsel Advocate Pradeep Dubey of the Indore High Court, placed his allegations and arguments before the court. The complaint alleged that an attempt was made to put pressure on the journalist and intimidate him.

After considering the material and arguments presented during the proceedings, the court ordered prosecution under the relevant legal provision. The court's order has brought the year-old dispute back into focus.

It is important to note that an order directing prosecution does not amount to a final finding of guilt. The allegations will be examined through the judicial process, and the accused will have an opportunity to present his defence.
